Archie Matthews, Jonathan Stout and Kieran Ashby will now line-up alongside the best learners and apprentices from across the UK in the National Finals, and will compete at Bridgend College – Pencoed Campus in South Wales from 25–28 November.

The students are all on a Level 2 Horticulture Operative Apprenticeship Standard (APL) programme, and demonstrated their technical skills in aspects such as block paving, decking construction and plant knowledge in a national qualifier earlier this year, held at Myerscough College’s main Bilsborrow campus.

The competition is run in partnership with the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) – an accrediting body for the best in domestic landscaping – and supported by leading companies. The students had to complete tasks in timed sessions and were marked to exacting standards on the quality of their work and attention to detail.

Ben Blackledge, CEO, WorldSkills UK said: Congratulations to this year’s WorldSkills UK National Finalists.  Our competitions test learners’ skills against global industry standards, providing a powerful platform to showcase their talents. Over two intensive days of competition they will gain valuable skills and confidence which will turbo charge their careers and make the UK economy more competitive.

“With employers all over the UK crying out for high-quality skills this is a fantastic opportunity for hundreds of learners to show they are ready for work. I can’t wait to see the finalists in action.

The finalists and medallists will be honoured at ICC Wales on Friday, 28 November.

We wish our learners all the very best for the rest of the competition and their careers.
